Nature of the service

Steel Tank Inspection is an independent reference on aboveground storage tank inspection under API 653 and STI SP001. It performs no inspections and signs no reports. It explains what an examination covers, what a compliant report has to contain, and how to verify that the inspector you are about to hire is currently certified. Submitted projects may be shared with independent inspection providers. Inspection, testing, certification, engineering evaluation, repairs, insurance and any dispute arising from the work are the sole responsibility of those companies and of the certified personnel who perform them.

Nothing on this site constitutes engineering, legal or regulatory advice, and nothing here is inspection procedure, entry guidance or permit content. Statements about inspection standards, intervals, testing methods, personnel qualification or occupational safety must be verified against their authoritative source, the current edition of the applicable API standard, the regulation or program that adopts it, and the occupational safety rules in force, as they apply to a specific asset at the time of the work.

No page on this site should be relied on to determine an inspection interval, to evaluate a tank, or to establish compliance. That is the role of a certified inspector and of the engineer responsible for the asset.
